I'm just a computer scientist who happens to have a tumblr. I'm specially interested in artificial intelligence and research, atually I'm a PhD student, so the posts will probably be related with these circumstances.

After Christmas, that part of the year full of peace, love, good intentions and wishes, starting a new year in which we promise to be better than the previous one, I’ve exceptionally* decided to write a post about something unrelated with AI. Well, at least some paragraphs.

The video is quite objective presenting data and making few judgments. I think that it as a whole is one of the best arguments in favor of sustainable development, something completely required for life to continue, and if it didn’t there are many things that would lose the meaning. Every progress made in science and engineering would have been in vain, it is worthless if there is nobody alive to enjoy it. Moreover, this progress may be required for a greater sustainability, I will leave for the debate if this progress is already happening diminishing costs or if the digital divide is growing wider. But in the end, applying methods for a greater sustainability will allow more people to live in the planet, but this will always have a limit. I wonder if “virtualizing” these people may be an option in the future, but I hope so, as this would solve many other problems. And this way we get back to computers, cognitive science, etc. :D Enjoy the video, HAND and good luck for us all, neighbours of planet, during this year.

*I hope readers (the two of them) don’t have a more restricted meaning of exceptional than me, I mean, that I’m not doing too many exceptions.

Note: posting this video doesn’t mean I fully agree on everything that may be said or implied in the video, but “to the very least” the images are beautiful. Some assertions related with global warming are disputed and I have the knowledge required to assert or deny any of them.
